Ice Hockey at the Top Colleges

Ice hockey is played by both men and women’s teams in the NCAA at the highly selective colleges. Overall, 22 of 61 highly selective colleges have men’s ice hockey teams and 17 of the 61 highly selective colleges have women’s ice hockey teams with a total of 1045 ice hockey players across both genders.

Of the 22 colleges with men’s ice hockey teams, 12 of them belong in Division 1 with 320 players and 10 of them belong in Division 3 with 284 players, totaling 604 players together in the 2021/2022 season.

Of the 17 colleges with women’s ice hockey teams, 10 of them belong in Division 1 with 262 players and 7 of them belong in Division 3 with 179 players, totaling 441 players together in the 2021/2022 season.
